Accelerating Action with Knowledge

Transport, Climate and Sustainability Global Status Report– 4th Edition

We’re excited to share that the 4th edition of the SLOCAT Transport, Climate and Sustainability Global Status Report (GSR) is here!

The GSR is our one-stop hub for the latest data, trends, and policies shaping sustainable transport worldwide. It brings together up-to-date insights on the key challenges and opportunities in the sector—covering demand, use, and access to transport, climate and sustainability trends, as well as policy and investment developments.

The goal? Equip decision-makers and actors within and beyond the transport sector with an assessment of the current situation, and knowledge for faster, bolder climate and sustainability action in transport.

Since 2018 and over four editions, the GSR has grown into a powerful collective effort, with over 300 experts from more than 200 organisations from across the globe working together across editions. Whether as advisors, authors, data contributors or peer reviewers, the diverse and multi-disciplinary community behind the GSR is what makes it so rich and relevant.

What’s new in the 4th edition?

We’ve built on everything that’s worked so far and added a sharper sustainability lens. This edition will include:

Shaping the Just Transition: Challenges and Opportunities towards Sustainable Transport

This module focus on shaping the just transition towards sustainable transport, with a deep dive into its challenges and opportunities.  Among them, one of the chapters looks at the 10 years after the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda, on the road to the first-ever UN Decade of Sustainable Transport. The other chapters dive into advancing the right to mobility (passenger transport), transporting shared prosperity (freight transport and logistics), logistics for climate action, building adaptation and resilience within transport systems and across communities and economies, driving gender equality to empower women and transform transport, gender responsive approaches in freight in Asia, a just transition for workers in the transport sector, and driving health forward through the critical link between transport and well-being.

It highlights where progress is happening and where gaps persist—from access to public transport and safer streets to cleaner energy and investment—providing an evidence base to inform regional action but also national trends and data, with the country factsheets . Last but not least, a spotlight examines the distinct challenges and opportunities for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Country Factsheets National Trends and Analysis

The country fact sheets of the SLOCAT Transport, Climate and Sustainability Global Status Report – 4th edition provide concise overviews of transport in 31 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and Oceania. Each fact sheet highlights key data insights on passenger and freight transport activity, climate and sustainability trends and major policy developments. The fact sheets offer a snapshot of country-specific progress and challenges in advancing sustainable, low-carbon transport.
